Olympic Stadium-Blog 2
The air was hot and musty and the smell of pretzels, hotdogs, and beer engulfed me as I walked down the stairs into the Olympic stadium in Munich, Germany. The German soccer fans were all busy chatting about the anticipation of the game as it was halftime and Germany was tied with Uruguay in the third place game of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The stadium was full of German fans and everyone was proudly sporting their red, black, and yellow hoping that their team will be victorious. The man in front of me was even wearing the German flag as a cape in order to show in German pride. The game was being projected onto a screen in the middle of the field that was equivalent to the size of an American football field and the screen was twice the size of a typical movie screen, but looked like an old big screen television as it wasn’t a flat screen. As the game ended and Germany won 3-2 the crowd went wild and the tall man with brown hair and fair skin in front of me exclaimed “I wish we were in South Africa!”

Kelly,
ReplyDeleteGood choice of scenes to describe!
This was certainly a unique moment - hope you enjoyed it, too.
I like this as is, although I think it would be even stronger if you took the first person, the "I" and "me," out of it. The reader knows you were there, with this level of description.
The only suggestion I have is that it was a little unclear that the game wasn't happening here. Needed to find a way to work that incongruity in earlier.
I think you were short a few punctuation marks in those last couple sentences. When in doubt, add a period.
