The Dream Vacation-Blog 3

For most people, traveling the world for a year is a dream which they never achieve, but for Lorenzo Cosentino of Florence this dream is about to become a reality. Lorenzo is a twenty one year old barman at Bar il Ristoro, near the Duomo in Florence, and through his job has learned how to speak English by talking to English speaking guests who visit this bar while he is working. He has made numerous friends from this and while most of his agenda for his trip is still up in the air, he has decided to include the United States in his one year tour of the world and plans to visit Miami, Florida, Los Angeles, California, and New York City. Lorenzo explained that he has friends in or near all of these areas which is why he chose them and he is also thinking of taking a train to visit friends in Boston, Massachusetts. Lorenzo said that he loves Americans, especially American girls, due to their easygoing attitude. Lorenzo is traveling with some friends of his, but is mostly excited to visit all of his friends in the United States and see the country since he has never been there before. Lorenzo’s exciting journey starts in September of 2010 and is sure to be the vacation of a lifetime.

  1. Kelly,

Good detail here on Lorenzo's work, and how it helped him gain language skills, as well as his trip.

What does he look like? Sound like? Act toward a good-looking American woman like you? If you can add these descriptions to your stories about people's lives, then your reader is traveling along with you.

You're short some details on Lorenzo's past here. How can he afford to travel for a year? Does he aspire to be the best bartender ever, or an engineer, computer tech or tie designer?

So when you sit down to interview someone, have a list of questions that you know you need to even have a shot at "telling their story." If the person evades your questions, write about that, too.
